Kendra Ward and Bob Bence will be teaching hammered and appalachian dulcimer workshops at Bob's Barn Performance Art Theater in Lake Odessa, Mi on Saturday, March 25, 2023!
The fun with “The Joys of DAA” (9:00am-11:00am). We will start by preparing our own turkey feather quills and then learning how to get that old-timey mountain rhythm by learning to “whip” our quills. We will also learn noter techniques, new tunes, chords, chord/melody styles, harmony and arpeggio ideas for playing back up and accompaniment with others.
Kendra and Bob will provide all the turkey feathers and noters as needed. Please come tuned to DAA. If you are worried about tuning, Kendra and Bob will also have several mountain dulcimer tuned to DAA, so you can give this traditional tuning a try!
During the afternoon, Kendra and Bob will be teaching two hammered dulcimer classes. The first one, “Taking Your Foundation Skills to the Next Level” (1:00pm-3:00pm), will boost your imagination and improve your playing. We will learn lot’s of new embellishment ideas, and how to think “outside” of the box. We will practice scale and arpeggio exercises which will help you to utilize your entire instrument. Hopefully you will have many “aha” moments!
The second hammered dulcimer class, “1, 3, 5, vs I, IV, V” (3:30pm-5:30pm), is all about chords and arpeggios. You will see chords in a very different light, and learn to play back-up, fill-in’s, and embellishments with ease.
The cost for each class is $35.00 per person. Contact Kendra and Bob at upcreek@dulcimertimes.com for more detailed information, questions, specific ideas that you would like to know more about or suggest, and to pre-register for the class. We look forward to hearing from you!
